Rec-Cember is officially up and running in two days, Monday ahoy! Feels real nice when it lands on the beginning of a new week, huh? I hope you've all had a good time scrounging for fanworks to rec, and may have found some shiny new gems all for yourselves as well (I know I have).

Hey all,

time sure flies! We’re now one and a half weeks away from December. Felt like a good time to check in and ask how corralling all those recs are going, maybe give a nudge to those that may not have signed up yet.

So how are things going?

Oh, and I do have a BlueSky promo post up, if anybody feels like doing a lil rebleet.

And if you’d like to promo on your own journal:

womansplace is doing a companion event, focused on characters who identify as women or who are aligned with womanhood. So that’s one community worth keeping in mind. Anybody else running a community they’d like to welcome folks to cross post to?

2025 Rec-Cember Sign-Ups

Welcome, one and all. Ready to tell others about cool stuff on the internet? Yes I know it’s November still, but gathering up those juicy recs takes time. So consider the sign-ups as a way to set a soft goal for yourself, and maybe finding some common fandom pals in the comments? Please do mingle ♥

In December we’ll be doing a weekly check in post here at the community, but I also recommend tagging posts with rec-cember, to hopefully get the tag up at Latest Things.

Hi there!

This here’s a community for a month long rec event.

Throughout December - dubbed Rec-Cember - I’d love to inspire more folks to recommend fanworks. I feel that part of fandom culture has dwindled significantly after the introduction of the AO3. This community is a gathering point for the event, but recs will be posted to your own journals or communities here on Dreamwidth.

There’s a whole bunch of different approaches you could take:
* One fanwork rec per day for the month of December, mono or multi-fannish (✨the Christmas Calendar approach✨).
* A weekly rec-list, centered on a theme, character, pairing, fandom, or type of fanworks.
* Teaming up with some of your fandom pals to create a community for your fandom to host your collective recs (example), or create one all to yourself (example). The tagging system on Dreamwidth is most excellent, and more gathering grounds for fandoms is always a boon.
* A rec post for your current fandoms, also known as a fandom primer (example).
* [insert your own approach here]

Recs can of course encompass every type of fanwork there is, including more tertiary fanworks such as crafts, baked goods, what have you. Fannish creativity seems to know no bounds ❤️

~~I’ll be putting up a relaxed sign up post tomorrow so we can all mingle,~~ but is there anything else you’d like to see here, or any questions you have?
