This here’s a community for a month long rec event.

Throughout December - dubbed Rec-Cember - I’d love to inspire more folks to recommend fanworks. I feel that part of fandom culture has dwindled significantly after the introduction of the AO3. This community is a gathering point for the event, but recs will be posted to your own journals or communities here on Dreamwidth.

There’s a whole bunch of different approaches you could take:
* One fanwork rec per day for the month of December, mono or multi-fannish (✨the Christmas Calendar approach✨).
* A weekly rec-list, centered on a theme, character, pairing, fandom, or type of fanworks.
* Teaming up with some of your fandom pals to create a community for your fandom to host your collective recs (example), or create one all to yourself (example). The tagging system on Dreamwidth is most excellent, and more gathering grounds for fandoms is always a boon.
* A rec post for your current fandoms, also known as a fandom primer (example).
* [insert your own approach here]

Recs can of course encompass every type of fanwork there is, including more tertiary fanworks such as crafts, baked goods, what have you. Fannish creativity seems to know no bounds ❤️

I’ll be putting up a relaxed sign up post tomorrow so we can all mingle, but is there anything else you’d like to see here, or any questions you have?

Great idea! I miss the old rec communities both on here and LJ. I don't know how much of a commitment I can realistically make but I'll do my best.

Oh this is such a great idea! I have been stuffing myself with good fics since I returned to a fandom and the bookmarks in AO3 just aren't cutting it for me. This is the kick in the butt I need to make some rec lists and share them!

I'm exactly the same; AO3 bookmarks just leave something to be desired. Hope to see you at the sign-up post!

Since we're not posting recs directly to this community, how do you feel about me doing a partner event over at womansplace? That community would be for women-centric recs.

I'm 100% for it ❤️ would help if the Rec-cember tag was used, but it's not a must. I'd just love to see DW swimming with recs again.

made an announcement and it's open to anyone who'd like to do some themed recs about women/those aligned with womanhood.

I got invited to this but I honestly don't have time for anything more. I do a weekly round-up of three EO recs for the bensler community (for Elliot/Olivia fics for SVU), and I post recs for any favorite fics I've added to my fic database to the recthething community (usually in a comment on the latest community recs post, but occasionally there are enough to make a post all their own) - but that's all I can do. I'm not sure how this would fit in. How do you see my current recs posting working with this without adding any extra rec collection tasks?
